Numerous requirements must be considered when building a swimming pool. The opportunity variably section off a large pool is of great interest to planners, contractors and operators alike, especially taking into account the manifold present-day needs and uses.
The start and turning bridge from KÖSTER (traversable in the longitudinal pool direction as per the system created by Prof. Schuster, Berlin) fully meets the various functions demanded of a swimming pool (e.g. competitive swimming, water polo, aqua gymnastics) in a truly simple way. The width of the bridge is important when planning sport swimming pools, also taking the pool geometry into consideration. No structural analysis work is required when fitting and using the start and turn bridge.

Design and operation of the start and turn bridge from KÖSTER are based on the technical implementation of this platitude.
The bridge is moved with amazing simplicity and reliability:
- In the “resting position” the bridge is positioned with its dead weight on the steps located on the longitudinal sides of the pool (approx. 1.20 m below the maximum water level).
- To move it, compressed air is blown in by means of a valve allowing it to float upwards. The air can be supplied through a hose at any random position on the pool.
- The bridge now floats on the water surface, and is moved by hand to bring it to the new position. The bridge floats “unfettered” as it were on the water with no mechanical fastening elements whatsoever.
- The compressed air is now released by a valve on the top allowing the bridge to sink down to the resting steps.

A start and turn bridge from KÖSTER equally meets all the sporting needs of the user.
The top surface can be coloured in line with the pool walls and passages for lane marking, giving the impression that it is all part of the complete swimming pool.

The composite structure made of GFK materials and corrosion-resistant steel lend the bridge excellent rigidity, featuring a permissible vertical surface load of 5 kN/m2. Its properties can most certainly be compared with those of a solid pool wall.
The bridges are supplied in a standard width of 1.50 m and their height reaches from the resting steps to the edge of the pool. The walking surfaces on the top and the tuning surfaces under water are of non-slip design and give a sure footing.
