Pneumatic partition

Make two out of one

Numerous requirements must be considered when building a swimming pool. The opportunity of sectioning off a large pool is of great interest to planners, contractors and operators alike, especially taking into account the manifold present-day needs and uses.

The pneumatic partition from KÖSTER fully meets the various functions demanded of a swimming pool (e.g. competitive swimming, water polo, aqua gymnastics) in an amazingly simple way. The partition consists of a stainless steel lattice frame stiffened by cross bars for maximum rigidity. The frame is cladded with GFK boards (glass fibre reinforced polyester), and a grating on the top ensures trouble-free in- and outflow of the water. The partition is guided in recesses in the pool walls, and raised and lowered by filling uplift tanks with compressed air. The raising motion moves the partition to its upper position in which it is then locked. In the bottom position it rests on consoles located in the pool side walls.

Air is lighter than water!

The operation of the pneumatic partition from KÖSTER bases on the technical implementation of the idea. It is raised and lowered easily, quickly and reliably and rests, in the home position, on consoles located in the pool side walls. The top of the partition is flush with the pool floor.

  • For raising and lowering, small jets located in the base of the floor recess are used to blow compressed air into the uplift tanks of the partition, which is open at the bottom.
  • The air collects in the tanks so that the partition floats upwards. Guided by rollers in grooves, the partition rises to the point where it is level with the passage around the pool.

  • Guided by rollers in grooves, the partition rises to the point where it is level with the passage around the pool.
  • Bolts at both ends of the partition are pneumatically pushed out of the pool wall into the opposite apertures in the partition for locking it in position. The partition can now be freely used and walked upon by the bathers.
  • The superfluous air gradually escapes through small jets located on the top of the tank.
  • To lower, the bolts are released and pulled back into the pool wall by filling the uplift tanks with air once. The partition sinks of its own accord into the slot in the floor.

On your marks……. ready……..go!

Just before reaching the surface
Just before reaching the surface

The KÖSTER pneumatically operated partition equally meets all sporting requirements.

The top surface can be coloured in line with the pool walls and passages for lane marking, giving the impression that it is all part of the complete swimming pool.

Firm ground under your feet!

The composite structure made of GFK materials and corrosion-resistant steel lend the partition excellent rigidity, featuring a permissible vertical surface load of 2 kN/m2. Considering that swimmers can walk on it and impact it when turning, the partition can most certainly be compared to a solid pool wall.

The partitions are manufactured in widths of 0.50 m and above, and section off the full width of the pool. The walking surfaces on the top and the turning surfaces under water are of non-slip design for sure footing. The water level in the pool must be always identical on both sides of the partition.

Functionally reliable technology with minimum follow-up costs

The pneumatically operated partition is of extremely rigid design with no moveable parts. The GFK material used is highly wear-resistant and of long service life. All this goes to making KÖSTER pneumatic partitions maintenance-free.

The KÖSTER experts have practise-oriented solutions for all pools: long years of installation experience guarantees exact planning coupled with on-time delivery, erection and hand-over.
