Cable speeds

Winch with externally mounted motor

General

The cable speed is dependent on the winding diameter and motor speed, and is always stated in brochures in conjunction with the first cable layer. When winding several layers of cable onto the drum, the cable speed increases at the same ratio as the winding diameter. The increase in speed is stated as factor “x”.

Dual speed motor

If a dual-speed winch is required, then the easiest solution is to fit a 2-speed motor. The addition of the 2-speed motor does not hinder, for example, the addition of items such as a brake release device or a safety brake. Such a winch must be controlled from a switchbox equipped with the necessary reversing contactors. It is only possible to fit the contactors in special cases in the winch itself. For example, on the WE 20, where there is sufficient space.

2-speed motors are only available at a speed ratio of 1:2.

Infinitely adjustable speeds

ADLER electric winches can be supplied with infinitely adjustable cable speeds using a frequency converter. The converter is incorporated in a sheet steel switchbox (protection class IP 55). A filter fan must be included to provide appropriate ventilation. The switchbox contains the main switch, fuses, frequency converter, powered choke, interference filter and brake resistor (BR) ready for connection wired to terminal.

The winch is controlled by suspended push button system, including potentiometer. The direction of rotation is set on the push buttons and the required speed on the potentiometer.

Electric winch with externally mounted motor

The ADLER electric winches are fitted as standard with a special brake motor in the drum.  By fitting the motor inside the drum it is well protected against external influences but only has a duty cycle of 40% ED. Continuous operation at 100% ED, or at larger cycles per hour, is only possible with a standard motor fitted externally. In such cases, we ask you to provide information on the exact conditions of use enabling us to submit an appropriate quotation.

Drive mechanism group

The electric winches of standard design correspond to the drive mechanism group 2m in accordance with DIN 1520, Sheet 1. This corresponds to daily operation of 2 – 4 hours at identical frequency of small, medium and large loads i.e. from 1 to 2 hours in the case of virtually maximum loads.

The winches can also be supplied with drive mechanism group 1 Am feature that increases the load by 25% at the same time halving the daily period of use.
